The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned consumers against a product that is purported to be a weight loss supplement. The agency said that Bavarian Brew Slimming Coffee, which is being sold online and in some stores in the country, does not contain the required pharmaceutical active ingredient of Orlistat. It also did not undergo government evaluation and registration before being marketed, the agency added. The agency has ordered all establishments and outlets to stop selling and distributing the identified product.

Earlier, the United States FDA and Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) flagged a number of slimming capsules and coffees being marketed on social media sites, including Facebook, and sold at various retail stores. These products are branded as “Lishou,” and claim that they can remove fat within a week. The US FDA and the TGA advised consumers not to purchase and consume these products as they may contain sibutramine, an appetite suppressant that has been withdrawn from the market because of its high risk of cardiovascular conditions such as heart attacks and stroke.

Unlike other slimming coffees that make you jittery and nauseous, Glutalipo’s 12-in-1 slimming and whitening coffee mix is sweet and refreshing with no bitterness. It contains green coffee beans with chlorogenic acids that may help reduce body fat, soluble fiber from barley grass, mangosteen, which is rich in vitamins, and glutathione, an anti-cancer agent that makes the skin look brighter and fairer. It also has L-carnitine, which oxidizes long chains of fatty acids in the body and transfers them to energy, and Green Tea, which is an antioxidant that boosts metabolism and burns more calories.
