A new trend has emerged on TikTok that combines coffee and lemon. The drink is meant to help users lose weight by burning fat and boosting metabolism. The drink is also believed to increase energy and make people feel more alert.
The trend is gaining traction on social media and videos of people trying the concoction have gone viral, with searches for terms such as “coffee and lemon” growing dramatically over the last year. Many people are claiming to have lost a lot of weight by consuming the concoction.
But is this a viable weight loss method? We asked a few dietitians to give us their opinions on the drink and whether it could actually be helpful.
First of all, it is important to note that there is no scientific evidence that drinking coffee and lemon will help you lose weight. Instead, a healthy diet and exercise plan can help you reach your weight-loss goals.
You should also remember that too much caffeine can cause health problems such as dehydration and headaches. It can also be addictive.
As for the lemon, it can have benefits, such as increasing your vitamin C intake. It is also a natural source of citric acid and can aid in digestion and decrease the likelihood of kidney stones. However, it is best to consume it in moderation and avoid taking it on an empty stomach.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the amount of lemon juice needed for this drink is pretty minimal. A slice of lemon contains only about 5 percent of the daily value for vitamin C. That means you’d have to eat more than that slice of lemon to get the same benefits from this drink, according to registered dietitian Beth Czerwony, RD.
If you’re looking for a low-calorie drink that can boost your metabolism and help you burn calories, consider drinking black coffee or lemon water. They contain less sugar than soda and are full of antioxidants to help promote good health.
Adding lemon to your morning cup of coffee may be helpful in shedding pounds, but it’s not something that you should do for the rest of your life, says Dr. Parmeet Kaur, a senior dietician at Narayana Superspeciality Hospital in Gurugram. She adds that the beverage is best enjoyed with milk. Moreover, those with kidney disease should stay away from it, as it can aggravate the condition.
Lastly, lemon can cause heartburn, due to its high levels of acidity. The acid can also be rough on teeth, especially if it’s added to a hot beverage. This is why it’s recommended that you don’t rely on lemon coffee to help you lose weight, and instead, stick to a diet that includes healthy habits like incorporating fresh fruit and vegetables into your meals.
